You Can’t Learn to Ride a Bike by Watching a Video

I know, I know, you went through the METRC training video.  You say to yourself, “I got this, I got this.”  Until you try to tag 20 or 200 or 2000 plants.  Or try to enter 25 or 50 or 100 different products into METRC.  You wonder, am I doing this right?  I saw the video, but I’m not sure.  What if I’m doing this all wrong?  All of sudden your thoughts turn to “I don’t got this!”

The California Track and Trace system is a challenge to implement.  What looks easy can be a real challenge in real life.  Like riding a bicycle, you can watch all the videos you want, you’ll never learn to ride a bike by watching somebody else do it.  Putting the METRC Track and Trace system into operation, and keeping it accurate and current is just like that, you can watch all the videos in the world, but until you do it, you cannot be sure you are doing it right, or even the best way.

So what happens if I’m not doing this right?  Or the most efficient way?  Waste time, money and perhaps lose your license.  Better to get some hands-on training from somebody who has actually implemented and operates the METRC, Track and Trace system.  I can tell you from experience, if you do it wrong, or miss something, or get behind, it will take six times longer to fix the problems than it would have if you had just done it right the first time.

Little things like entering the plant tags, entering product items into the system, and understanding how all the components of METRC work, or don’t work can only be learned through hands on training.  How do you integrate this Track and Trace system into your other accounting and point-of-sale software?  Work with somebody who deals with this in a real business every single day.

If you have any doubts, hire a professional who actually works with METRC in real life on a daily basis.  You will save time, money, and perhaps even your license.  There are ways of using METRC efficiently and there are ways to waste a whole bunch of time.  Remember, if you get it wrong, you could be faced with fines, administrative penalties, suspension, or even revocation of your license.  At the very least you will waste thousands of dollars and countless labor hours trying to fix something that could have easily been prevented.

Just do it right the first time, put in the procedures to make sure METRC is up-to-date and accurate at all times, and believe me, your life will be much more pleasant.

Or you can strap on that helmet, watch a bike ridin’ video and peddle away.Let me know how that works out for ya’!
